Hunter is a town located in southwestern Oklahoma, in the United States. It is situated in Garfield County and has a population of approximately 173 people, according to the 2010 US Census. The town is relatively small, covering a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.5 sq km).
Hunter was originally founded in 1893 as a stop on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The town was named after a local rancher, Andrew Jackson Hunter. Over the years, the town grew and prospered thanks to its solid agricultural base and the discovery of oil and natural gas reserves.
